  4. Hi Tiana,

My name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you this summer as part of the Summer Learning Journey program. It's great to see that you've been working on these activities. Well done!

Activity 1: Great facts about Maui! His brothers were rather mean to him throughout the story weren't they. Why do you think that is? I think that they were a bit jealous of his ability. Have you read any other Maui stories? There's a really good one about Maui and the sun. Here is the link if you are interested in reading it: http://eng.mataurangamaori.tki.org.nz/Support-materials/Te-Reo-Maori/Maori-Myths-Legends-and-Contemporary-Stories/How-Maui-slowed-the-sun

Activity 2: Good work! I think a lot of the first Maori setters would have been very nervous about moving to a new country. What are some of the things the first settlers might have been looking forward to about landing in a new country?

Bonus activity: It does look fun, doesn't it! But I think it would also be a lot of hard work. You would need to practice a lot. What sorts of things do you think you could do to practice for the race?

I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
    Cheers,
    Ruby.

    1. Hi Tiana,

They would have been looking forward to exploring, I'm sure! What sorts of things do you think they would have found while they were exploring?

I wonder what you could do to keep fit before being in a Wak Ama race. What do you think?

      Cheers,
      Ruby.

    2. Hi Ruby,

I'm sure they would've found new creatures while exploring, probably a kiwi if they existed back then when they arrived.

And a thing I would do to keep fit is stay healthy and always drink water!.

      Thanks,
      Tiana
