9KME Classroom Projects - Akomanga Kaihanga!

Kia Ora and Talofa Lava, my name is Tiana and I am a year 9 student who is a part of the Akomanga Kaihanga projects that is happening and I am in a creative team that is called Team Poly’s. We are focusing on how we can do projects in the community that will prevent something in the community that has made a negative impact towards people.

The members in my group are me, Makayla, Grace, Kurtus, Siaosi and Leiite.

So basically our project is just a sports tournament that happens on Fridays and goes on for about four weeks. Our sport we chose to do was touch because from our own perspective we believe that it is a sport that engages a bunch of young youth and it is less frightening as it is a game that doesn’t require aggressiveness.

We are using this project as a way to prevent young youth from staying off the streets after school times. We also believe this could be a way to engage girls or other kids into sports. So this is also what we hope to achieve.

The feeling I have upon our project is that I really admire the creative minds that my group has said and done for our project and how they figured this could be a way to prevent these things. But also I feel with the COVID-19 around right now, I have a sense that right now it should be held around this time as it isn’t quite safe around with this virus.
