Te Whare Tapa Wha!
In health class, we have all been working and focusing on the four dimensions of ‘Hauora’. The four dimensions are Taha Hinengaro (Mental/Emotional), Taha Tinana (Physical), Taha Whānau (Social) and Taha Wairua (Spiritual).
The Four Dimensions:
Mental/Emotional Well-being:
The first dimension we have is Taha Hinengaro, Which is our mental and emotional well-being. This dimension represents how we think and how our thoughts are, along with how we feel upon different events that happen in our lives.
Physical Well-being:
Then we have Taha Tinana, which in English is our Physical Well-being. This dimension is just for us to focus on the cleansing of our bodies, what we physically do to keep our bodies healthy and taking care of our body by having a good balance with nutrition, sleep, and exercise. Also by doing easy things daily, that’ll have a good impact on our hygiene like brushing our teeth or hair daily and showering our bodies.
Social Well-being:
Another dimension is Taha Whānau, which is our Social Well-being. It is for how we are in our social lives. How our relationships are with our families, friends and other people. It could also be our connection with the community, and the compassion and care we have for others.
Spiritual Well-being:
Lastly, we have Taha Wairua, this is our spiritual well-being. It is for our beliefs, what we value in our lives and our faith along with our cultural values. Knowing we have a purpose in life and spiritually having a good sense of connection with God for us who believe in him.
Focusing On Our Four Dimensions!
Basically, these four dimensions are really important for us to focus on. Our health is a holistic model of well-being. We should always take these four dimensions into consideration. Because it is for the better of our well-being, and for ourselves to keep our lives stable.
Negative Impact
These four dimensions won’t always be perfect. But that isn’t something to be ashamed of. Either one of our dimensions will fail to stay stable and that may be caused by negative events that have happened and with that, it may emerge with discouraging outcomes and it potentially will have an awful damaging impact on either of our four dimensions. But we can prevent that happening by choosing how we want to react to the situation.
How is my own well-being going?
Recently, my four dimensions have begun to make a positive impact on my daily life. Spiritually I’ve started to feel more urge to pray for upcoming events that are happening in my life, as it makes me feel like the weight is off my shoulders. Socially after making prayer a strong part of my life, I have felt a way more powerful connection with God and I also feel a lot more communicative with my family and friends and when I socialize with everyone I start feeling comfortable with my surroundings and I feel a huge sense of belonging. My mental/emotional well-being has been well as I’ve set myself to have a positive mindset upon things and especially when it comes to school. My physical well-being has improved a lot more as I’ve started being more active with my after school hours by participating in poly fest’s Samoan group which lately has been keeping me really active. Personally, I believe that when I have at least one or two positive dimensions it has a positive impact on the other two of my dimensions.
