Inference - Reading (Mahy)

For reading today we have groups. The group I am in is 'Mahy' what we have done was learn about 'Inference'. We were given sentences with answers we had to find out what the answer is by using the Keywords in the sentence.
Inferences - WHEN
Answer each question, highlight the keywords and justify why this keyword helps you to make the inference.
  1. The first glint of light in the eastern sky was the signal for the soldiers to clamber from the shelter of their trenches.
    What part of the day was it?
    Morning  Keywords: First glint of light - Tells us that it is morning but early because ‘first glint of light’ will be the sun coming up which brings light.

  2. With hunger gnawing at her stomach and the sun at its zenith, Barbara sought the shade of a small cafe.
    What part of the day was it?
Noon Keywords: Sun at its zenith - Tells us it is noon because the meaning of zenith means ‘it is the most powerful’ and it is talking about the sun and noon is the powerful part of the day with the sun.

Autumn Keywords: Birds migrating to a warmer climate - Tells us its Autumn


  1. Having travelled so far, Doug was disappointed to find that he no longer recognised the village.
    Had Doug been in the village before? How do you know that?
Yes, because he doesn’t recognise the village anymore. Either because he hasn’t been there in ages or they changed the village around.
