Hauora Well-being - Food Technology

 Hauora Wellbeing!

What does ‘healthy eating’ mean to you and what does it look like?
For me, personally healthy eating means consuming foods that are beneficial to my body and appearance. It means to eat a variety of food that will give me the nutrients that I need to maintain my own health. It looks like the consumption of food that consists in the food pyramid, consuming foods from the 4 lower boxes shown in the food pyramid, the Wheat section, Fruit and Vegetable section, Dairy section, and Meat section. With the suggested servings provided.

The Concept of Hauora
Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health and well-being unique to New Zealand.

Study Notes - Mathematics

Today in Mathematics, we are making study notes on numbers for our topic test on Friday. So I went to my maths site and here we are going to assign what the notes are.

Study Notes:

1) Number

Multiples: The meaning of a multiple is the product result of

one number multiplied by another number.

Example → 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 ...

Factors: A factor is a number that is able to divide a number

completely without leaving any numbers remaining.

Example → 3 and 6 are factors of 12 because 12 ÷ 3 = 4 exactly and 12 ÷ 6 = 2 exactly.

The other factors of 12 are 1, 2, 4, and 12.

Prime Number: Prime numbers are numbers that have

only 2 factors: 1 and themselves.

Example→ Prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, and 11.

HCF (Highest Common Factor): The largest whole number, which is

shared by multiple numbers.

Example → The highest common factor between 8 and 12 is 4.

LCM (Lowest Common Multiple): The lowest common multiple between two numbers.

Example →The lowest common multiple between 3 and 4 is 12

2) Order Of Operations

B: Brackets

E: Exponents

D: Division

M: Multiple

A: Addition

S: Subtraction

Example → (5x6) x 1² ÷3 - 8 + 4

30 x 1² ÷3 - 8 + 4 =

30 x 1÷3 - 8 + 4  =

30 ÷ 3 - 8 + 4 =

10 - 8 + 4 =

2 + 4 =

Answer: 6

3) Rounding

Meaning: Rounding implies simplifying a number yet keeping its worth near what it was. The outcome is less exact.

DP = Decimal Point

6.35719 to 2dp ... '5' is higher therefore we round it up to the nearest 10 which means the answer is 6.40

4) Standard Form

Meaning: Standard form allows us to write numbers without using as many digits.

Examples →

5432 = 5.432 x 10 ³

14 500 = 1.45 x 10 ⁴

0.00045 = 4.5 x 10 -⁴

A Smart Goal.

Talofa Lava everyone, in Maths today we wrote out

our own smart goal for ourselves to focus on.

The SMART goals method is used to help give us a clearer sense of direction for our objective. It is used to make sure our goals are attainable within a certain time - frame.

This is the acronym for the word SMART.

S - Specific. The goal should have a clear, highly-specific endpoint. If your goal is too vague, it won’t be SMART.

M - Measurable. You need to be able to accurately track your progress, so you can judge when a goal will be met.

A - Attainable. Of course, setting a goal that’s too ambitious will see you struggle to achieve it. This will sap your motivation, both now and in the future.

R - Relevant. Your goal should be helpful relating to your chosen objective or it should benefit you directly.

T - Time-Bound. Finally, setting a timeframe for your goal helps quantify it further, and helps keep your focus on track.

Waitangi Day

3 facts about the Treaty Of Waitangi.

  • Waitangi Day was signed on, February 6th, 1840

  • There were two versions of the treaty. One in Māori and the other in English.

  • William Hobson was the person who signed both versions of the treaty.

3 different points of view on Waitangi Day.

  • Some people are against Waitangi Day being a public holiday because from their perspective the treaty of Waitangi was seen as a day of war and conflict, and it was said to be a ‘day of shame’ because they believed Māori were robbed from their own land.

  • Other groups of people celebrated Waitangi Day and were not against it being a public holiday as they saw it as a day of peace and settlement, for why we are able to live on this land today.

  • Some people don’t really have worries or concerns about Waitangi Day being a public holiday as they see it as a day to rest, a day of no school and no work. Basically, they just see Waitangi Day as a day off.

Your perspective on whether it is important to celebrate Waitangi day or not.

I am unsure of my opinion at this point. After more insight and knowledge about Waitangi Day and the history behind it, I will then be able to recite my opinion.

Why it is/or isn't important to learn about the treaty.

It is important from my perspective as it is a historic day in New Zealand's history. So it would be could to have knowledge about the treaty.

Te Whare Tapa Wha, Hauora!

Te Whare Tapa Wha!

In health class, we have all been working and focusing on the four dimensions of ‘Hauora’. The four dimensions are Taha Hinengaro (Mental/Emotional), Taha Tinana (Physical), Taha Whānau (Social) and Taha Wairua (Spiritual).

The Four Dimensions:

Mental/Emotional Well-being:
The first dimension we have is Taha Hinengaro, Which is our mental and emotional well-being. This dimension represents how we think and how our thoughts are, along with how we feel upon different events that happen in our lives.

Physical Well-being:
Then we have Taha Tinana, which in English is our Physical Well-being. This dimension is just for us to focus on the cleansing of our bodies, what we physically do to keep our bodies healthy and taking care of our body by having a good balance with nutrition, sleep, and exercise. Also by doing easy things daily, that’ll have a good impact on our hygiene like brushing our teeth or hair daily and showering our bodies.

Social Well-being:
Another dimension is Taha Whānau, which is our Social Well-being. It is for how we are in our social lives. How our relationships are with our families, friends and other people. It could also be our connection with the community, and the compassion and care we have for others.

Spiritual Well-being:
Lastly, we have Taha Wairua, this is our spiritual well-being. It is for our beliefs, what we value in our lives and our faith along with our cultural values. Knowing we have a purpose in life and spiritually having a good sense of connection with God for us who believe in him.

Focusing On Our Four Dimensions!
Basically, these four dimensions are really important for us to focus on. Our health is a holistic model of well-being. We should always take these four dimensions into consideration. Because it is for the better of our well-being, and for ourselves to keep our lives stable.

Negative Impact
These four dimensions won’t always be perfect. But that isn’t something to be ashamed of. Either one of our dimensions will fail to stay stable and that may be caused by negative events that have happened and with that, it may emerge with discouraging outcomes and it potentially will have an awful damaging impact on either of our four dimensions. But we can prevent that happening by choosing how we want to react to the situation.

How is my own well-being going?

Recently, my four dimensions have begun to make a positive impact on my daily life. Spiritually I’ve started to feel more urge to pray for upcoming events that are happening in my life, as it makes me feel like the weight is off my shoulders. Socially after making prayer a strong part of my life, I have felt a way more powerful connection with God and I also feel a lot more communicative with my family and friends and when I socialize with everyone I start feeling comfortable with my surroundings and I feel a huge sense of belonging. My mental/emotional well-being has been well as I’ve set myself to have a positive mindset upon things and especially when it comes to school. My physical well-being has improved a lot more as I’ve started being more active with my after school hours by participating in poly fest’s Samoan group which lately has been keeping me really active. Personally, I believe that when I have at least one or two positive dimensions it has a positive impact on the other two of my dimensions.

Lockdown Holiday!

I have never thought that my holidays will ever consist of me having to stay at home every single day for a while I had to start getting used to having to stay home because it had gotten way too boring for me. It was very different and non-eventful but with the opportunity of getting to sleep in, not have a specific time to go sleep and also getting to watch movies all day had been the relaxing part of lockdown. One of my highlights in this lockdown would be getting to spend most of my days being productive as a family and finding different things to do together. But another fav in the lockdown is getting to cook dinner for everyone and serving them. Lockdown for me has been quite interesting and challenging not only for me but also for my family.

9KME Classroom Projects - Akomanga Kaihanga!

Kia Ora and Talofa Lava, my name is Tiana and I am a year 9 student who is a part of the Akomanga Kaihanga projects that is happening and I am in a creative team that is called Team Poly’s. We are focusing on how we can do projects in the community that will prevent something in the community that has made a negative impact towards people.

The members in my group are me, Makayla, Grace, Kurtus, Siaosi and Leiite.

So basically our project is just a sports tournament that happens on Fridays and goes on for about four weeks. Our sport we chose to do was touch because from our own perspective we believe that it is a sport that engages a bunch of young youth and it is less frightening as it is a game that doesn’t require aggressiveness.

We are using this project as a way to prevent young youth from staying off the streets after school times. We also believe this could be a way to engage girls or other kids into sports. So this is also what we hope to achieve.

The feeling I have upon our project is that I really admire the creative minds that my group has said and done for our project and how they figured this could be a way to prevent these things. But also I feel with the COVID-19 around right now, I have a sense that right now it should be held around this time as it isn’t quite safe around with this virus.
